Alienware has long had a strong underground following; however, the release of the M11x will definitely be turning the heads of gamers. The Core i5 and i7 ULV CPUs and Nvidia GeForce GT 540 graphics make this laptop a gamers dream. Throw in USB 3.0 and a long battery life even when running something as intense as games, and you’ve got a sure winner.
Although the screen display may seem a bit small for gaming or movie watching at only 11.6 inches, it does completely support HDMI and Display Port, and comes with an amazing 5.1 Surround-Sound Klipsch Speaker system. Alienware already had a great reputation for producing laptops with exceptional sound systems, and this new system easily trumps the old even though their contract with Klipsch is a new one.
Other additional features that come standard with the new M11x include:
• 4 GB, 1,333MHz DDR3
• Windows 7 Home Premium
• 500 GB Hardrive
The only downside to these laptops is that they lack an optical drive which can be a bit annoying when trying to download games. Their overall exterior design is distinctive and is one that most Alienware die-hards love, but it could also stand to be improved. Compared to other laptops in the same ultra-portable category, the M11x is a bit cumbersome weighing in at 4.5 pounds which is starting to make it seem harder to tote around.
Otherwise, the Alienware M11x is a great improvement to last year’s model. The M11x is also relatively affordable with a standard laptop starting at $1,099. Not only does this beat out last year’s price of $1,299, but you are also getting more for your dollar – which rarely happens in the computer field. Overall, the Alienware M11x is the perfect gaming computer for gamers on a budget.
